ONE OF GOD’S HELPERS
2-21-10
In my journal 14 years ago I wrote, “Last night a striped grey baby
female kitten came to my door. I could see its right rear leg had been
broken. I went to the supermarket and got a litter box and some cat
food. I promised the Lord I’d take care of whatever He sent my way and
here’s this little kitten. I can’t keep them all but I can feed them and
find them a home. I am not God but I am one of His helpers.”
It is so wonderful to make an agreement with God that you will be one of
His helpers. The pay is good. The wages are the beautiful experinces you
get to enjoy.
This kitten was definitely the most adorable kitten I have ever seen.
She had no annoying habits. She slept with me but did not wake me. She
was loving. She was a sweet little companion.
After I’d had her about a week I knew I was willing to spend some money
on her and get her little leg repaired. I took her to my vet and she
said, “That leg has already healed in the position it is in and I would
not put her through the pain of breaking and setting the bone. If it
doesn’t bother you, leave it be.”
I knew I loved her as she was and my usual way with strays that came my
way was to get them spayed and then find them a home so I thought there
would be someone who would also love her as she was.
One day my vet called and said, “I have a man here who just got a
divorce and he is lonely. Do you want to do as you usually do and place
that little loving kitten with him?” I agreed and took the kitten to her
to pass on to him.
In about two weeks I realized how much I was missing that sweet thing
and I called the vet and asked her to see how the man was doing with her
and if he wanted me to take her back. She called him and then told me he
adored the kitten. My heart was sad but I was so happy she was being
loved and appreciated. I told her, “Just tell him if he ever wants to
get rid of her to let me know because I miss her.”
He never has called and it may look like I was a loser on the
experience. Not so. I have loving memories of our time together and I
have reasoned it out this way: the Lord must have known the man who
took her needed her more than I needed her. He wanted her placed so she
could heal the most broken heart. Since the Lord is much smarter than I,
I never mind leaving such decisions in His hands.
I have had similar experiences in many cases of being God’s helper, both
with animals and people. I had a young lady who came into my life and
had been badly wounded in childhood. She was very talented and lovable
and I think I was in the process of falling in love with her when a
wealthy man came into her life and she asked me if I would be hurt if
she married him. I knew in my heart I needed to let her go with my
blessing. Her happiness has brought me a lot of happiness.
To have great joy forever, just tell God you will do what you can for
any animal or person who comes to you in need of your love and
assistance. It will be one agreement you will never regret.
