WINTER WELLNESS PROGRAM
10-4-09
I usually write on topics related to our
spiritual health and, in my opinion, this is the most important thing in
our physical and mental health. But today I want to share some health
information because it worked for me.
This past winter is the only winter of my life I had no respiratory
problems. Not even a cold or sinus problems. To not have sinus
problems in Chattanooga is nothing short of a miracle. I love this
magnificent city but it is no haven for sinus sufferers. I think it is
because it is surrounded by mountains and this creates a coffee cup
effect with stagnant air trapped inside the city.
First, let me tell you about Dr. Terry Smith. Last year my personal
physician, Dr. Bill Findley, quit the general practice of medicine and
became a specialist in pain control. This gave me a window of
opportunity to find a doctor who knows natural medicine as well as
allopathic. That’s how I found Terry Smith.
He’s quiet and self-effacing but he is very sharp and thorough. He did
some blood tests and told me I was very deficient in vitamin D. He put
me on 6000 IUs a day. My whole body perked up. I also started taking
Pure Immune from North Star Neutriceuticals. Go to their website and
read how PureImmune was discovered. Interesting story.
My friend, Bobbi Taylor, manages doctors’ practices and has had a
lifetime of sinus headache problems. She and I discovered Sinus Flora
about the same time. I have a personal policy of trying new things for
three months so I ordered it and in three days I could tell a big
difference in my sinuses. When I have the slightest flare-up I also
squirt up with Sinus Rescue from Peaceful Mountain. It is very effective
in stopping colds and sinus blockages from occurring.
The best exercise equipment I have found -- especially n the winter when
we can’t walk -- is a good rebounder. I bought a Needak online and
although it cost over $300, all those fancy exercise machines cost a
comparable amount. Rebounders literally milk your lymph system. At the
top of your bounce you are gravity-free and at the bottom the power of
gravity is increased. Therefore, as you go up and down, you are moving
lymph fluids around in your body.
We have more lymph fluids than blood. I went to a naturopathic physician
in Asheville who strongly believed a sluggish lymph system caused
cancers and many illnesses. She invented a lymph mchine and I do know
one thing: after her treatment I felt like a new man. I was happy to
learn I could do the same thing with a rebounder.
Running beats your knees and ankles to death but walking and bouncing on
a rebounder absorbs the shock. To build the muscles that support your
knees and ankles, just squat a little when you walk. In less than two
weeks my knees shaped up one time when I had knee pain.
In the summer when I can walk, I end up throwing clothes and magazines
on mine but when winter comes, I clear it off. I am a believer in
rebounders.
There is a definite inter-working between out minds/spirits and our
bodies. This is no longer debatable. So work you up some spiritual
activities to perform as you walk/rebound or whatever. Come up with your
own. I could share mine but spiritual exercises need to be very
personal. There’s no right way to do it so just start experimenting.
I will share one: a little piece of scripture came to mind once as I
thought about my nutrition and exercise and I consciously do it. It’s
the verse that says, “Present your body a living sacrifice to God.” Just
consciously give your body to God. I truly believe He is the Great
Physician.
