Carl Jung wrote, “Your vision will become clear only when you look into your heart. Who looks outside, dreams. Who looks inside, awakens.” I love Rev. Angelica Jayne’s Friday messages. In a recent one she talked about intention and how intention triggers your creative subconscious mind to bring forth solutions. She talked about a client who wanted her life work to become clearer to her so she declared; “It is my intention to do the work I came here to do.” Just declaring her intention triggered her creative mind to open doors and make her path clear. I know this works. I once sat in a one-room apartment, freshly-fired and even more freshly divorced. I was an agnostic at that time but I did declare my intention with a simple prayer, “God, if you are real, open a door for me. My way of seeing if you exist will be open doors. When a door is slammed on me, I will not try to kick it open. I will simply look for open doors and if you help me find a life, I will serve you and my fellow man with integrity.” Within weeks, a door opened for me to run for the highest office in the county. Though I was broke, I was elected. I discovered the power of making an honest statement to God. I wasn’t demanding. Just declaring the intention of my heart and mind. God always has and always will honor our honest intentions. And one method He uses to respond is through our creative mind. The doors that opened for me to make that race were clearly surprises. Some would call them miracles. Contrary to our human addiction to flashiness, some miracles are just quiet outworkings. The reason I saw them as miracles was that there was no logical, rational reason to expect them to happen. When you declare an honest intention to do good and to live your life for God, you will definitely see some miraculous but quiet outworkings. It’s not so much that God takes time off from a million planetary concerns, as it is our use of divine laws. The Universe is lawful. It operates according to certain natural and spiritual laws. The spiritual law of declaring your intention and activating your creative mind is as certain as the law of gravity. The second miraculous outworking in my situation was the awakening that Jung mentioned. I was only watching for open doors but I learned that keeping inwardly awake to the whisperings of creative mind was the way to find constant awareness. It tunes you in to the promptings of Spirit. Jung says those who look outside, dream. They usually dream of things they want. There are times we need things but even at those times, the path to attainment is to awaken inside. Stay honestly open, keeping your motivations under continual review. When I was running, I kept my inner motivation pure. I really had one dominant desire and that was to serve God and people. To keep selfishness and other base motivations from entering our spiritual lifeblood, we must remain in tune with our highest inner nature. The sweetest result of declaring an honest intention and listening to our inner guidance is a growing awareness of the constant presence and fellowship of the Spirit of God. It made me an incurable mystic. A mystic bases his spiritual value system on his own personal experience. I knew for the first time in my life that the presence of the Lord is as real as any experience we can have in this life. It was not something I expected. It was a life-changing surprise. I do not talk about my personal experience to brag on myself. You cannot brag on yourself when you know your success is due to stumbling into a spiritual law and discovering what it can do. With gratitude, I witness to you that it is true.
