SHAPING THE INNER CONSCIOUSNESS
November 7, 1004

Few things intrigue me more than Jesus' teachings about the kingdom of God. He said the kingdom is within so he must be talking about the inner consciousness.

Taking that fundamental truth that our inner consciousness is the domain of God within us, let us look at what he said about that kingdom.

First, he said it is like leaven, or baking yeast. It can be expanded throughout the entire body and mind. We continually expand our inner being as we add new yeast (awareness). It is also worthy of comment that heat expands yeast. We can expand our inner God awareness by keeping our heart and soul warm. Too much attention to the coldness in life that we face daily in news accounts and in our own life circle will keep the soul from expanding. It will keep our inner kingdom small. We do not need to go and crawl in a hole but we need to be ever aware that the world can be "too much with us." Our top priority is our happiness and fulfillment, our inner growth and well-being.

He said it is like a seed. Seeds are powerful growth packages. One tiny seed can produce a plant that will feed several families. It can produce a tree with enough firewood to warm many homes. The seeds that make a difference in our inner consciousness are kernels of truth that we bury deep in our spiritual selves. It is those truths that keep setting us free.

He said it is like a treasure hidden in a field. We expand our consciousness of great good as we develop the habit of locating our own inner treasures. We all have facets of greatness buried beneath the debris of painful old experiences. Clearing away the debris, we are forever finding new talents, and new personal attributes. Each time we discover something new about our our selves, we expand our inner kingdon, our inner consciousness.

Working with our leaven, truth seeds and hidden inner treasures we expand and shape our consciousness -- our experience of the inner kingdom.
