EXCITEMENT IS HEALTHY

On this day in ‘94 I was writing in my journal about Jack Schwarz'z interview in Science of Mind Magazine in which he talked about how important it is to our health for us to live with excitement.

I guess the idea of needing excitement conflicted with my own idea that we need peace and quiet to stay healthy. Is there a conflict in these two concepts?

Really, both are important to our mental and physical well-being. But even in our times of quietness we can be conscious of our energy radiating throughout our body and energy field in exciting ways. We can train ourselves to enjoy the very feeling of the energy our thoughts are generating. We can bask in our energy like we bask in the warmth of the sun.

The kind of excitement Schwarz's is talking about is not the excitement created by danger or something like competitive sports. He is describing energy we intentionally create, circulate through our bodies and radiate outward to others.

Energy coming from watching competitive sports is "up and down energy." You are excited when your team scores, and angry when they fumble. See-sawing energy disrupts our being.

Schwarz could generate such powerful energy that he could stick needles through his arm and never feel pain. Maybe such demonstrations turn you off but he used these techniques to dramatize the lessons he taught.

My own technique could be best described as "playing with energy." Maintain a playful attitude as you visualize the energy surrounding a person, situation or even a word. Let's say the word is "love." See that word light up in your mind and then circulate it all over your body. Or visualize a circle and bring into that circle a situation or person you wish to energize.

Choose and create your own excitement and Schwarz says it will keep you young.
